Re: Do led backlight wear out?
So the question is if a LED will wear out or burn out? Yes, at some point, all good things must come to an end. LEDs are good for more than 100K hours What most people look for in an LED is the half-life. LEDs slowly dim over time; half life is the time, in hours, of how long the back-light can oper...

Re: Can you increase tft brightness?
Yes, TFTS can be made brighter. There are a few ways to accomplish this. First, TFTs provide 64K or 64M colors and many can display video. But they don't do very well in direct sunlight. If you need a TFT to be readable in direct light, you can order a transflecive https://focuslcds.com/journals/tra...

Re: What causes a segment too flicker
Most Segment displays use a 4:1 mux or a 1:1 mux. If the frequency is not optimized, it will flicker. Segment displays have a refresh rate of around 25%.
Some segment displays have a spi or I2C interface which monitor the refresh rate and avoids the flicker.

Re: What is the best display for an outdoor scale
There are many display technologies that work well outside. If you don't need multi-color and you need to save power (runs on batteries), a monochrome segment or character display will work. They do well down to -25C. If you need to go below that, you can add a heater. Also, monochrome works very we...

Re: What happens when segment gets too cold?
A segment display https://focuslcds.com/segment-lcd/ is a monochrome (single color) display that can display any number, some letters and custom icons. It is built with two pieces of ITO glass with a fluid between them. As with all fluids, once it gets colder, it slows down the response time and wil...

Re: Can a segment have a controller
Yes. A segment, aka static display is one that displays numbers, icons and a few letters. Most Segment displays use a 4:1 mux or a 1:1 mux. A 4:1 mux means there are four (4) segments tied to every one pin. The display then runs as a 25% duty cycle. On a 1:1 mux (multiplex), there is one pin for eve...

Re: What is Ghosting
Ghosting mainly happens with monochrome displays and most of those are segment displays. It is when a segment is not fully on or fully off. It can be confusing to the end user since they don't know if the icon/letter/number should be on or off. It is caused by under powering the segment or from cros...

Re: How to know which wire on a LED backlight is positive and/or which is negative?
The positive side of the LCD backlight is normally red, the other is black. LEDs are DC driven and must be wired correctly, unlike AC

OLED, but heaters can be added to keep the LCD operating in very cold temperatures.
