Monochrome displays draw the least amount of power. A character or segment displays with the backlight off can draw less then 1mA. With the backlight, expect between 15mA and higher.



A segment display < https://hackaday.com/2018/07/24/custom- ... -and-easy/ > is low power, low cost and fully customizable. They are limited to displays numbers, icons and a few characters, but for many medical products, that is all that is needed.
