What is the max number of segments a custom lcd can handle

What number am I limited to for the max number of segments on a glass only LCD?
There really is no maximum number of segments. If you are using direct drive, such as a 1:1 mux or 4:1 mux, I would not suggest more than 100 segments. Here is a good article on driving direct.

If you need to drive more than 100 segments, I would suggest going with a SPi or I2C.
