Can a segment LCD be made thinner

Is it possible to make a very thin segment LCD?
Segment LCDs can be made thinner a few different ways.
1. No backlight.
2. If you need a backlight, replace it with a edgelight
3. Use a thinner glass. The downside to thinner glass is that it has a higher MOQ and a higher fall out rate
