What is the difference between transflective and transmissive polarizer? Which one is better for sun light readable?

Transflective allows a backlight to be placed behind it for night time operation, but the display can also be read if the backlight is off.
Transmissive produces a brighter backlight than transflective, but the display is not readable unless the backlight is on. Hence, not a good option for battery powered products.
