What voltage options are there for a character LCD?
Character LCDs have two input voltages. 3.3V and 5V.
5V is the most popular, but 3.3 is gaining fast. Many people prefer the 3.3 for battery powered applications. Two AA batteries generate 3.3V.
5V operates better at colder temperatures. The colder the environment, the more voltage required.
Many 3.3V displays have a built in charge pump to increase the voltage as temperatures drop.
There is no cost difference between the voltages.
