Connect a 10K potentiometer with one end on the plus voltage (5V or 3.3V) and the other end on the 0V (ground). Connect the wiper pen to the contrast pin (Vo). Adjust the potentiometer until you find the sharpest contrast and then replace the variable resistor with that resistance value.
