what is the standard interface chip set for a character LCD

What is the most common, standard interface chip used on a character LCD. It's good to go with the industry standard so the display won't go obsolete anytime soon. thank you

The most common/standard interface chip set is the HD44780 parallel. Most controller drivers follow this set and is a good one to design new products around.
