replacement for VFD

What is a good replacement for a VFD? Is their a drop in equivlant?
VFD stands for vacuum fluorescent display. It is an older technology. It stands out and is easy to read. The downside is that that cost is very high.
There is newer technology called UWVD https://focuslcds.com/uwvd/ which is much lower cost and normally in stock.
