Do led backlight wear out?
Do LED backlights wear out? how long?
Re: Do led backlight wear out?
So the question is if a LED will wear out or burn out?
Yes, at some point, all good things must come to an end. LEDs are good for more than 100K hours
What most people look for in an LED is the half-life.
LEDs slowly dim over time; half life is the time, in hours, of how long the back-light can operate before its brightness is at 50% of what it originally was when first turned on.
So if the half-life is rated at 50K hours, then the brightness of your back-light will be half as bright at 50K hours. If the back-light burns for an additional 50k hours, it will be half as bright as it was at 50K hours, or in other words, the LED will only be 25% as bright as when it was first turned on.
The less current sent to the LED, the longer its half-life.
