How does an IPS type of LCD work?

IPS makes use of two transistors for every pixel, unlike older active matrix TFTs that used us one transistor.
This provides a sharper image and a wider viewing angle.
IPS provides a sharper contrast and is brighter but draws more power and is more expensive.
